A sneak peek into IGI’s journals database

By Richard Broekman

Researchers, teachers, and students of Tilburg University now have the opportunity to try-out and see what they can find in the IGI Global’s InfoSci-Journals Database. During a trial period until October 15 the library provides free access to this database containing over 27,000 peer-reviewed journal articles.

The IGI Global’s InfoSci-Journals Database covers a variety of scientific fields, such as Business and Management, Computer Science and Information Technology, Education, Law, Media and Communications, Healthcare, Social Sciences and Humanities. A new flagship journal is the International Journal of eSports Research (IJER), launched recently because eSports has grown into a multi-million-dollar industry.

The database provides access to IGI Global’s full journal collection. Based on the trial, we will decide about subscribing to the journals database. A subscription would also offer our university an additional source of open access funding through IGI Global’s Open Access Fee Waiver Initiative. We currently already have access to over 5,000 e-books on the IGI Global platform.

Where to find IGI Global InfoSci-Journals Database
You can access the website from this link. You must be connected to the university network through VPN (GlobalProtect) in order to have access to the journals, or access the site while on campus.

E-books bestellen – nog niet zo simpel

By Marian Papavoine

[English text below]

  • De uitgever verkoopt het e-book alleen aan particulieren (en dus niet aan bibliotheken);
  • De uitgever verkoopt het e-book alleen via een studievereniging aan studenten (en dus niet aan bibliotheken);
  • Het e-book maakt deel uit van een pakket e-books dat bijv. € 6000,- kost; de bibliotheek kan het e-book niet los aanschaffen;
  • Het e-book maakt deel uit van een pakket e-books, de bibliotheek kan het niet aanschaffen, maar moet zich op het pakket abonneren en voortaan een jaarlijkse bijdrage betalen;
  • Het e-book kan gekocht worden door de bibliotheek, maar de prijs is twintig keer de normale prijs voor particulieren omdat het volgens de uitgever een “textbook” is;
